Who is the programme for ?
This programme is aimed at those practising audio engineers/performers and musicians who wish to further their skills and knowledge in creative and technical aspects of music and music technology.
Entry to the programme ?
A potential student should possess a relevant BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology, Media, Performing Arts, Art and Design or Technology. Appropriate A Levels or a GNVQ Advanced in a relevant subject also allows entry onto the programme. The programme is also open to any mature student with an advanced understanding and experience of practical and technical fields. Selection is through audio tape, interview and a short written test.
When will the programme start and how long will it take ?
The programme will start in September.
This is a two year programme with attendance on four days per week and one day of independent study over 36 weeks per year.
What will I study?
Students will study the following
Compulsory Modules
Introductory Studies
Music Theory and Practice
Integrated Project
Digital Synthesis and Processing
Technical and Production Studies
Studio Workshops and Business Studies
Plus one Option Module
Audio Post Production
Contextual Studies
Data Systems Analysis and Design
Micro Electronics
These will broadly cover aspects of music production and performance with the provision for specialisation in one of the optional modules.
How is it assessed ?
The programme is modular in structure and is designed to achieve a progressive and flexible development for the student towards professional skills and attitudes. You will produce a portfolio of work through a series of assignments which will be assessed continuously throughout the course as well as your performances in studio and live assignments. These are designed to cover a range of group and individual activities across a variety of practical and theoretical work.
Future prospects ?
Continuation onto Degree programmes is expected as an academic progression. The provision of work placements within production and performance music fields is anticipated as a foothold into industrial experience/employment.
